Outline and Purpose of the Course The instructor gives lectures on human-ecosystem interactions and its historical change, referring to a variety of case studies of the Central African Forest, and then students and the instructor will discuss how relevant human-ecosystem interaction studies are to the issues of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
Course Goals By the end of this course, students will have gained:
(1) An appreciation of the ways in which indigenous ecological knowledge and cultural practices, as well as broader political and economic systems, shape diverse human-ecosystem interactions, and how human activities affected, positively and negatively, the ecosystems.
(2) An appreciation of importance of human-ecosystem interaction studies on the issues of biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.
