Outline and Purpose of the Course In this course, we will learn the basics of Islamic Studies as a fundamental discipline for the Study of the Islamic World, and develop capabilities to express the principal issues in this discipline.
Course Goals To acquire epistemological methodologies and fundamental knowledge appropriate for specialists in the fields of Islamic Studies, the Study of the Islamic World, Islamic Area Studies and Middle East Area Studies.
Schedule and Contents For each of the following topics, there will be lectures and seminars: early Islamic society, Islamic law and Islamic revival.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on Weekly Attendance, Assignments, Presentation, Homework, Term-End Assignment.
Course Requirements All the reading materials are provided by Japanese. The students must at least two books from the reading list provided at the 1st class, and submit reading reports by the end of October.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Reading assignments should be completed by each lecture date.
