Outline and Purpose of the Course Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the issues and research methods relating to the above fields of inquiry. Appraisal and guidance will be given from a multiplicity of angles on the writing up of their doctoral dissertations.
Course Goals Mastering necessary knowledge and arts as a researcher. Especially, conception and design of research, literature search and understanding latest findings in science, presentation of study outcomes, techniques of academic debates.
Schedule and Contents Week 1: Introduction
Week 2-14: Progress reports of all members
Week 15: Conclusion
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be made based on attendance and assignment (progress report); class performance (e.g., positive attitude to debate) may also be considered.
Course Requirements Those students who have already passed the qualifying examination of pre-doctoral thesis.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Each student is required to prepare his/her progress report by spending substantial effort and time. Each student is also required to discuss with his/her supervisors before and after the presentation. Each student is also required to prepare and review for other students' progress report so as to understand their presentations and to discuss on them.
