Outline and Purpose of the Course The purpose of this class is to learn the basic theory of financial accounting to understand the recent trends in accounting systems. Financial accounting is accounting performed to provide information to stakeholders outside the company (such as investors and creditors). To master the basic theory of financial accounting, it is necessary to understand (1) how to prepare financial accounting information (accounting rules), and (2) how and by whom the prepared accounting information is used. It is also necessary to consider (3) the accounting behavior of the management in order for them to utilize the accounting information they prepare. By looking at this sequence of events, we can understand how accounting affects the economy and society. This class will cover several areas and explain the rules of accounting, including the basic concepts behind the methods followed in preparing financial accounting information.

Evaluation Methods and Policy End-of-term examination
Course Requirements Basic knowledge of accounting is desirable. However, it is not mandatory as we will start from the basics.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Review the textbook, reference books, and summaries etc., distributed in class.
