Outline and Purpose of the Course This course is for students who have completed "Macroeconomics 1" and "Macroeconomics 2." Lectures on methods of dynamic macroeconomic analysis will provide a bridge to graduate-level macroeconomics.
Course Goals The goal for students is to learn the basics of dynamic analysis methods in macroeconomics.
Schedule and Contents Weeks 1-2: Preparation for dynamic analysis 1: Thoreau Model
Week 3: Preparation for dynamic analysis 2: Two-period Model
Weeks 4-7: Overlapping Generations Model
Week 8-9: Ramsey Model
Weeks 10-11: Applications of Overlapping Generations Model and Ramsey Model
Weeks 12-14: Labor Market Search Model
Week 15: Feedback
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluated through mid-term exam (30%) and final exam (70%).
Details will be explained in the first class.
Course Requirements Have completed or have equivalent knowledge of "Microeconomics 1," "Microeconomics 2," "Macroeconomics 1," and "Macroeconomics 2."
Have basic knowledge of calculus.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Most of the classes will explain macroeconomic models. For review, students are expected to work on the models by themselves. To be able to use the models, only listening to the lectures will not be sufficient, and individually solving problems will be required.
