Outline and Purpose of the Course Learn the theories underlying mid-level mathematical statistics, which are useful in slightly advanced econometric analysis.
Course Goals Learn the theories underlying mathematical statistics to prepare for an understanding of somewhat advanced theories in econometric analysis.
Schedule and Contents In this course, we will study the following based on textbooks.
1. Probabilities and random variables
2. Statistics and sample distribution
3. Statistical decision theory
4. Sufficient statistics
5. Estimation theory
6. Test theory
7. Inference about the normal distribution
8. Linear models
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on participation points.
Course Requirements The requirements are that you understand basic statistics, the derivatives and integration we learn from economic mathematics, and the basic concepts of linear algebra.
