Outline and Purpose of the Course In this seminar, participants will learn about modern Japanese economic history and management history covering the pre-war period to the post-war period. We will examine modern economies by analyzing them with a long-term (historical) perspective.
Course Goals The aim is to acquire the ability to read the literature in the fields of Japanese economic history and management history and to sufficiently carry out presentations and discussions. We also aim to learn how to write papers and reports and acquire methods for surveys and research.
Schedule and Contents We will read and discuss textbooks covering the economic history and management history. We will also learn to conduct literature research, interpret historical materials, and prepare reports and papers. Content of literature surveys, historical materials, and case studies are selected based on the participants' themes of interest.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Students will be evaluated over multiple presentations (50%) and their contributions to each discussion (50%).
Course Requirements None in particular. Since it is a seminar aimed at reading and discussing literature intrinsically by a few people, it is desirable that only those who like such activities take this course.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Instructions will be provided in class.
