Outline and Purpose of the Course The aim is to acquire basic knowledge of economic growth and development economics through reading textbooks and other materials. Economic growth is a field of macroeconomics that covers the growth of the output and income of countries, including advanced nations. Development economics covers a variety of economic issues faced by developing countries. The seminar instructor studies macroeconomic issues related to economic development and growth. Considering participants' interests, it is decided whether to learn by focusing on either economic growth or economic development (development economics).
Course Goals To acquire the knowledge and methods listed as the purpose of the classes.
Schedule and Contents Session 1:
We will determine which textbooks to use, taking into account participants' interests. In recent years, we have often learned the main chapters of the Introduction to Development Economics by Todo and the Introduction to Economic Growth by Jones (see references for both). However, it is also possible to use and learn different textbooks depending on participants' interests (e.g., other textbooks listed in references).

Sessions 2-14:
Group reading of textbooks and problem seminars.
Evaluation Methods and Policy 100% based on regular attendance in class. The evaluation for regular attendance in the class includes engagement and participation in the classes, presentations, and comments within classes.
Course Requirements It is expected that the student would have knowledge of microeconomics and macroeconomics at the introductory level (at the entry-level).
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Those who are not the assigned presenters also must read the materials in advance.
Textbooks Textbooks/References Other decisions are made after the start of the seminar.
