Schedule and Contents In the first half of the current school year, we plan to read various textbooks, as a group in the field of development economics. Shown below are some textbooks as examples, and they can be selected according to the student's preferences. While the mentioned textbooks are in English, there is no particular preference that they need to be in English. We may also choose a textbook written in Japanese.
As of now,

Perkins, D. et al ed., Economics of Development (7th Edition), W. W. Norton & Company, 2012
Perkins, D., The Economic Transformation of China, Imperial College Press, 2015

are planned to be used. At this stage with the textbooks, not much knowledge of statistics and econometrics is required, but I would like you to make some effort toward understanding such analysis. At the same time, we will work on quantitative analysis using actual data from econometric software. It is another effective way to learn econometrics.

Each session is planned according to the following schedule:

Session 1: Orientation and consultation on how the seminar will be conducted
Session 2: Reports and discussions of the read literature (1)
Session 3: Discussion on strategies and plans for statistical and econometric analysis based on the literature read in the second session
Session 4: Reports and discussions on the results of implementing statistical and econometric analysis based on the literature read in the second session
