Outline and Purpose of the Course Because of recent developments, the role of information technology and information systems in social activities has become tremendous. This course provides a comprehensive overview of the expression and transmission of information, problem solving through information processing, the mechanism of computers and networks, and the impact of information on the society. Through lectures on these topics, students will learn the minimum level of information literacy (ability of information handling) for students in the faculty of Economics.
Course Goals - Understanding the basics of the relationship between information technology and the society.
- Learning basic concepts of information processing and basic approaches of information analysis
Schedule and Contents These lectures will cover topics on how the development of information technology affects the society, and technical topics on information processing. Specifically, lectures will be given on each of the following topics for one or two weeks:
1. Information ethics
2. Information systems
3. Information networks and society
4. Representation and handling of information
5. Data structures and algorithms
6. How software works
7. How hardware works
8. Computer networks
9. Information security
Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation will be based on two reports (40 marks in total) and an exam (60 marks).
