Outline and Purpose of the Course The second-year plant production science course, Science of Cultivated Land and Environment focuses more on the environment, agricultural resources, and agricultural ecosystems and systems of crop cultivation than the crops' characteristics. The course covers essential farming practices, knowledge, and technology related to agricultural resources (e.g., soil, water, air, vegetation) and the ecosystems essential for agriculture and human survival. The course Science of Cultivated Land and Environment explains the background behind various problems (and solutions) related to material circulation, agricultural land, agricultural and environmental issues, adaptive evolution and the agricultural culture of plants, and agricultural systems and functions of agricultural ecosystems. Students will learn about soil science, tropical agroecology, weed science, and cultivation system science.
Course Goals To understand the critical relationship between the sustainable use of agricultural resources and the maintenance of sustainable agroecosystems. Learn to develop countermeasures by understanding soil science, tropical agroecology, weed science, and cultivation system science.

Week 4. Soil science: Agriculture and environmental issues in wetlands
Week 5. Tropical agroecology: Tropical environments and agricultural production thinking about the environment and agriculture on a global scale
Week 6. Tropical agriculture ecology: Problems of tropical agriculture and wisdom and ingenuity of tropical agriculture
Week 7. Tropical agroecology: Agricultural production in stressful environments and physiological ecology of tropical crops
Week 8. Tropical agroecology: Function and sustainability of tropical agroecosystems
Week 9. Weed science: The importance of knowing weeds: human and biological definitions
Week 10. Weed science: Foreign weed problems and their invasion routes
Week 11. Weed science: Weeds as a resource
Week 12. Weed science: Adaptation evolution of weeds to human activity
Week 13. Cultivation systems: Natural and cultivated ecosystems
Week 14. Cultivation systems: The practice of food production in agricultural land ecosystems

Evaluation Methods and Policy Evaluation method: (1) Reports on issues raised by the instructor regarding the science of cultivated land and environment from the perspectives of soil science, tropical agroecology, weed science, and cultivation system science, (2) quizzes during class hours, and (3) attendance
