Outline and Purpose of the Course Understanding basic topics of chemistry and explaining chemical phenomena around us using basic chemistry textbooks.
Course Goals As a core compulsory subject in the teaching profession course, science students will acquire basic knowledge and perspectives of chemistry by studying a wide range of fields in chemistry.
Schedule and Contents Lectures will cover the following topics:

Day 1: Structure and states of matter I (Atoms)
Day 2: Structure and states of matter II (Chemical bonds)
Day 3: Structure and states of matter III (Three states of matter)
Day 4: Changes in matter I (Chemical equilibrium)
Day 5: Changes in matter II (Speed of chemical reactions)
Day 6: Changes in matter III (Acid and base reactions)
Day 7: Changes in matter IV (Redox reactions)
Day 8: Properties of organic compounds I (Basics of organic chemistry)
Day 8: Properties of organic compounds II (Synthetic polymers)
Day 10: Properties of organic compounds III (Biomolecules and biological reactions)
Day 11: Compound analysis
Day 12: Chemistry around us I (Chemistry and the environment)
Day 13: Chemistry around us II (Chemistry and metals)
Day 14: Chemistry around us III (Chemistry and batteries)

Evaluation Methods and Policy [Evaluation method]
The evaluation will be based on class performance scores (including answers to quizzes) (about 20% weightage) and the final examination scores (80% weightage).
