| Outline and Purpose of the Course |
Lectures will be given on major issues in research fields related to the structure of the food system, agricultural management/agribusiness (agriculture-/food-related industries/enterprises), and consumer structure and behavior in reference to their private, social, academic and theoretical aspects. By doing so, I hope to contribute to students' progress on their senior thesis and provide individual guidance on the thesis. In addition, seminars will be held on the basics of fieldwork and statistical analysis to contribute to the senior thesis. There will be an opportunity to have a discussion with postgraduate students. |

| Course Goals | Through working on the senior thesis, students are expected to develop the skills to examine private/social problems and attain academic achievements and overcome challenges. Students are also expected to be able to identify the theme to be resolved, explore/set the analytical task/method for arriving at a solution, collect and analyze data independently, and organize and present the findings. | |||
| Schedule and Contents |
(1) Presentation and guidance on how to identify analytical tasks and methods (about 2 classes) Based on the thesis theme identified in the second semester in the third year, students will continue with literature survey and identify analytical tasks and methods by the second semester in the third year. (2) Presentation and guidance on the analytical framework (theory and hypotheses) (about 4 classes) Continue with literature review and start developing an analytical framework based on it. (3) Designing research/analysis, identifying the research subject, and preliminary analysis (about 3 classes) Students will examine analytical items based on their own tasks, methods, and analytical framework. When engaged in social statistical analysis, students will identify the data to be used and carry out preliminary analysis. If a questionnaire or interviews (related institutions, enterprises, producers, and consumers) are planned, students will examine the research subject and research topics, and conduct a pilot study. (4) Design, implementation, and analysis of the main survey (about 5 classes) Building on the results of preliminary analyses and pilot studies, students will confirm analytical and research topics following their own questions, method, and analytical framework. When conducting interviews, students will design and conduct the main interview. Additionally, students will analyze data using the method that has been identified and start writing up results. (5) Feedback (1 class) Students will learn about research and analytical methods related to the above. |

Assessment is based on attitude (attendance and seminar participation) and in-class presentations. Assessment criteria and policy are drawn from "Assessment criteria and policy" in the current version of the Faculty of Agriculture Student Handbook. |
