Outline and Purpose of the Course | Enzymes are catalysts with high selectivity and efficiency. To understand enzymes from a chemical viewpoint, reaction kinetics, activity control, reaction mechanism, etc. are outlined.
Course Goals |
It provides a systematic understanding of the kinetics and mechanisms of enzymes. Enzyme responses can now be considered at the molecular level. |
|||
Schedule and Contents |
Lectures on the following topics are planned. First session: Classification of enzymes Second session: Chemical kinetics Third session: Steady-state reaction kinetics Fourth session: Michaelis-Menten equation and rate parameters Fifth session: Inhibition Sixth session: Effects of temperature Seventh session: Effects of pH Eighth session: Allosteric enzymes Ninth session: Response mechanisms Tenth session: Coenzymes Eleventh session: Steady-state reaction kinetics of multi-substrate enzymes Twelfth session: Pre-steady state reaction kinetics Thirteenth session: Transition phase kinetics Fourteenth session: True enzyme reaction analysis Fifteenth session: Feedback (undecided) |
|||
Evaluation Methods and Policy |
[Evaluation method] Quiz totals (out of 20 points) from the first to tenth sessions, and the score (out of 80 points) on the final test will be evaluated as a total of 100 points. [Evaluation policy] Evaluation standards and policies are based on those described in the Faculty of Agriculture Handbook for the relevant year. |
|||
Course Requirements | It is desirable to have basic knowledge of biochemistry, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) |
Preparation: It is desirable to read textbooks in advance. Review: Read the textbooks, and take quizzes and class notes. |
