Outline and Purpose of the Course Thinking about how rural society is currently changing and how to research it targeting Japan and foreign countries. Regarding Japanese rural communities, we introduce the basic concepts for the analysis of such and explain research examples based on our own research experiences. In addition, we introduce trends and research examples of sociological research targeting the agricultural industry. We would like to explain the subject matter as concretely as possible using photos, videos, etc.
Course Goals Understanding the fundamental matters concerning contemporary issues related to rural society research and its methodology, including the viewpoints of research in Japan and the West.

1. The significance of learning modern food and agriculture sociology
2. Social construction of rural communities in modern times
3. I turn research and post-war history
4. Current status of I turn and changes after migration
5. Rural gender research
6. Post-war history of rural gender
7. The rural sociology of developed countries: Europe
8. The rural sociology of developed countries: The US

9. House theory
10. Village theory - approach from the group -
11. Village and region - connection with maintenance -

12. Encounter and exchanges: design of urban-rural exchange
13. Survival problems of communities and regional revitalization
14. Transformation of Asian rural communities
15. Final test
16. Feedback will be communicated separately.
Evaluation Methods and Policy The evaluation criteria and level of achievement will be based on the "Evaluation Criteria and Level of Achievement" section of the student handbook of the Faculty of Agriculture for the relevant year.
The evaluation method consists of small reports (30%) assigned during each lesson and a final test (70%).
Course Requirements None
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Reading the literature indicated in class and doing reviews and developmental learning.
