Outline and Purpose of the Course This course presents basic theories on the collection and utilization of information related to food and agriculture. It includes lectures on the current state of collection and utilization of information related to food and agriculture and their future direction of development.
Course Goals To understand the current state and future direction of the collection and use of modern food and agricultural information, especially secondary uses.
Schedule and Contents  The following topics will be covered in the course for 1-2 weeks each.
(1) The process of establishing statistical information: 2 lectures
Considering the process of establishing statistical information from the perspective of social statistics.
(2) Current status of statistical data collection in the food sector: 2 lectures
Discussion on the current state of statistical data collection regarding the food industry and food consumption.
(3) Current status of statistical data collection in the agricultural sector: 3 lectures
Discussion on the current state of statistical data collection regarding the agricultural production process.
(4) International trends in the collection and use of statistical data regarding food and agriculture: 2 lectures
Examination of trends in the collection and use of statistical data in the food and agriculture sectors in selected countries.
(5) Current status of use of statistical data regarding food and agriculture in Japan: 2 lectures
Examination of trends in the collection and use of statistical data in the food and agriculture sectors in Japan.
(6) Future developments in the collection and use of data regarding food and agriculture:
Examination of the present state and future directions in upgrading the collection and use of data regarding the food and agriculture sectors.
(7) Feedback: 1 lecture
Feedback process will be shared separately.

The above may change depending on the progress of the course.
Evaluation Methods and Policy The evaluation methods and achievement levels will be calculated as follows:
Evaluation will be based on class performance (attendance and quiz scores) (50% weightage), and reports/examination (50% weightage).
No credits will be given if the attendance rate is less than 70%.
Higher scores will be given for reports displaying original ingenuity.
The evaluation criteria and achievement level are in accordance with the "Evaluation Criteria and Achievement Level" described in the Student Handbook of the Faculty of Agriculture for the relevant year.
