Outline and Purpose of the Course Water as a resource is unevenly distributed temporally and spatially. It is also a resource that demands the consideration of diverse aspects in development and use. In other words, the sustainable use of water as a resource is only possible with a profound understanding of flood control, water quality, biological ecosystem, policies, culture, and so on. Building on such a background, the course aims to understand general issues around water as a resource and the aquatic environment as the basis to comprehend water use in agricultural and rural areas.
Course Goals 1. To provide summaries of the state of water as a resource in Japan and in the world.
2. To explain multiple methods of water resource development.
3. To discuss the aquatic environment of rivers.
4. To discuss the aquatic environment of lakes and reservoirs.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Assessment is based on reports (20 points) and examinations (80 points).
