Outline and Purpose of the Course This course outlines the interaction between crops and weeds, damage caused by weeds, and various weed management methods, and discusses weed management in paddy fields, uplands, and non-agricultural lands. Through this course, we aim to provide basic knowledge on rational and sustainable weed management.
Course Goals To gain basic knowledge of weed management and apply what has been learned to crop production.
Schedule and Contents 1-3 weeks of lectures will be conducted for each of the following topics, a total of 15 lectures, incorporating the latest developments of weed science in each:

1. Interaction between crops and weeds, damage caused by weeds
 Outline of the interaction between crops and weeds and discussion of competition between them. Introduction to damage caused by weeds and economic losses.
2. Outline of weed management
Discussion of the concept of weed management regarding economic tolerance limit.
3. Weed control methods
 Introduction of biological, physical, cultural, and chemical control methods for weeds and their characteristics.
4. Chemical control of weeds
 
Classification of herbicides and their mode and site of action. Herbicide and plant selectivity
5. Weed management in paddy fields, uplands, and non-agricultural lands
 Weeds and weed management methods in paddy fields, uplands, and non-agricultural lands.
6. Sustainable weed management
 Discussing sustainable weed management system as a course summary.
7. Final examination/Evaluation of learning
8. Feedback
 We lecturers will be available in the laboratory to answer students' questions. Questions will also be accepted via e-mail.
Evaluation Methods and Policy [Evaluation method]
Ascertaining the basic understanding of logical and sustainable weed management based on the results of the final examination (100 marks).

The evaluation criteria and achievement level are in accordance with the "Evaluation Criteria and Achievement Level" described in the Student Handbook of the Faculty of Agriculture for the relevant year.
Course Requirements It is advisable to have completed Weed Science I.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Study the course materials distributed in advance and review the contents of every lecture.
Textbooks Textbooks/References Will not be used. Printouts will be distributed during the lectures as necessary.
