Outline and Purpose of the Course |
Students will learn the significance and limitations of the corpus, which has played an important role in language studies in recent years, and acquire concrete techniques for actually dealing with the corpus. Instead of learning how to use a specific corpus or tool, we focus on learning basic concepts that will not be wasted as the software changes generations. |
Course Goals |
In addition to understanding the role of the corpus in language studies, students will acquire the basics to be able to handle the corpus freely without relying on off-the-shelf corpus search tools. |
Schedule and Contents |
Careful Reading of the 3rd and 29th "Korean Visitors' Records" |
Evaluation Methods and Policy |
Active participation in class (30%), homework (30%), final report (40%). |
Course Requirements |
Especially none |
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) |
As a review of the class contents, I will impose a simple homework about 2 or 3 times. In addition, we may ask you to introduce your previous research or present your own research project in class, so you need to prepare for it. For the year-end report, planning is required, such as setting a theme early. |
