Outline and Purpose of the Course This course will present the outline (what problems are solved, how they are solved, and to what extent) of the branch of learning called aesthetics. During this semester, which is considered the "analytical part," we will take up several representative issues from among the many handled in aesthetics (see "Class Plan and Details" below), and investigate them based primarily on the methods of "analytical aesthetics," which became mainstream in the English-speaking world in the second half of the 20th century.
Course Goals Analytically understand what kinds of problems are solved, how, and to what degree, in the field of aesthetics.

Evaluation Methods and Policy Assessment will be based on class participation (mini reports assigned each class session) (60%) and a final report (40%). Details will be explained at the first class meeting.
Course Requirements None
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) Students should examine the reference works and artworks introduced in class, with reference to their own interests and critical mind. They should apply the thinking introduced in class to their considerations of other examples and phenomena.
