Outline and Purpose of the Course	We will learn the entire social research process in a hands-on way, from planning a social study to writing reports. Through this experience, we aim to help students embody the knowledge they have gained in the classroom. To that end, a great deal of work outside of class time will be necessary. There will also be a lot of opportunities to consult and collaborate with other students.
Course Goals	Be able to plan, execute, enter data, analyze, and write reports for a study.
Schedule and Contents	Each topic will be covered for one to two weeks of class time First Semester 1. Survey Planning and Hypothesis Composition 2. Setting Survey Items, Phrasing Questions, Making Questionnaires 3. Pretests and Revising Questionnaires 4. Selecting Subjects and Regions, and Sampling 5. Running Surveys (Distribute and Collect Questionnaires, Conduct Interviews) 6. Editing 7. Frequency Analysis 8. Data Visualization 9. Hypothesis Testing 10. Report Writing Second Semester 1. Data Entry and Reading 2. Simple Frequency Analysis and Drafting Histograms 3. Manipulating Variables 4. Cross-Tabulation Tables, Creating Bar Graphs 5. Creating Scatter Diagrams and Box Plots 6. Segmenting and Combining Data Sets 7. Testing Independence 8. Testing Average Value Variation 9. Multiway Table Analysis 10. Regression Analysis
Evaluation Methods and Policy	Class performance (25%), homework (25%), reports (50%).
Course Requirements	Preferable, but not compulsory, to take this course along with social surveyor courses A-E.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review)	Review is important. There will be frequent homework assignments.
