Outline and Purpose of the Course |
By reading the Zizhi Tongjian (資治通鑑), which was required reading for Chinese scholars for a long time, we will not only improve reading comprehension of classical Chinese, but also gain opportunities to imagine what it was that Chinese intellectuals tried to learn from history. As this course is required for students in the Oriental history specialization, those considering continuing into that specialization are encouraged to complete this course within the second year. Those planning to enter other specializations are also welcome to join this class. |
|||
Course Goals |
1. Build a foundation for reading comprehension of classical Chinese historical works. 2. Master the descriptive style of classical Chinese historical works. |
