Outline and Purpose of the Course |
This is a 4-skills course that focuses on listening and note-taking skills. Students will practice listening for meaning (comprehension and note-taking) and listening for production (presentation and discussion). Students are expected to participate actively in class and prepare for the following lesson. There will be vocabulary and comprehension quizzes on each topic. 4技能を統合させながら、リスニングとノートテイキングのスキルを中心的に向上させます。「意味理解のためのリスニング」と「発表のためのリスニング」を重視します。授業への積極的な参加と予習が必要です。それぞれのトピックで語彙と理解度についての小テストも行います。 |

Course Goals |
By the end of the course, students should be able to: (1) identify the main idea and details of an academic listening passage (2) feel more comfortable listening to lectures, videos, and podcasts on unfamiliar topics (3) take effective notes and write a brief summary using the notes (4) give a personalized reaction to the listening content in discussions and presentations |

Schedule and Contents |
Lessons 1-2: Preparation. Students will practice two different forms of note-taking and have group discussions. Lessons 3-7: Lectures on Various Topics Listening & Note taking training, discussion, and comprehension quizzes Lesson 8: Mid-Term Listening and Note taking Assessment Lessons 9-13: Lectures on Various Topics Listening & Note taking training, presentation/discussion, and comprehension quizzes Lesson 14: Final Note taking Assessment and Presentation Lesson 15: No Exam. You will be assessed on assignments, tests, and participation throughout the term Week 16: Feedback week |
