Outline and Purpose of the Course This course focuses on improving English speaking, reading, and listening skills. Students will read journal and newspaper articles, deliver group and individual presentations, and practice note-taking while listening to audio recordings. All materials used in this course and topics for presentations will be related to economics.
Course Goals After completing the course, students will be able to better comprehend English written and audio materials related to economics. Through this course, students will also improve their English presentation skills.
Schedule and Contents Regular classes (weeks 1 through 13) will be conducted as follows:

・At the beginning of the class, there will be a written quiz based on the content of the previous class. There will not be a quiz for the first class.

・Students will practice reading a journal (or newspaper) article in English aloud. They will identify keywords and learn their meaning. Students are also expected to discuss these articles in English.

・Instructor will assign a presentation topic, and students will give 5-minute presentations in the next class. The presentation will be an individual or a group one, depending on the class size.

・Students will listen to an audio recording and practice taking written notes.

Final Class (week 14)

・Students will deliver a final presentation in English. The details regarding the final presentation will be given in the first class.

Study outside of Class (preparation and review) It is essential to review the content covered in each class and prepare for quizzes. I also recommend regularly listening to English audio materials available in the university library (such as documentaries, etc.).
