Outline and Purpose of the Course	Earthquake ground motions are represented by earthqauke source and seismic wave propagations inlcuding effect of surface geology. In this lecture, we will explain some of earthquake source mechanism, generation and propagation of seismic waves, estimation methodology of earthqauke fault rupture and underground velocity structure, and relationship between strong ground motions and earthquake disaster. For that purpose, we use several basin applied mathematics and basic physics.
Course Goals	To understand earthqauke ground motion characterisrtics, we use the basic applied mathematics and basin physics that you have already known. The purpose of this lecture is to understand generation and propagation of seismic waves.
Schedule and Contents	This lecture will cover the following topics. Lecturers observe the students’ proficiency level and allocated the number of weeks. Regarding how to proceed the lecture, notify students as needed with consideration that students can prepare for the lesson. 1. representation of seismic wave propagation 2. generation and propagation of seismic waves 3. seismic wave exploration 4. strong ground motion and seismic hazard
Course Requirements	We recommend that students master the basic mathematics, such as, vector analysis, partial differential equations, Fourier analysis and the basic physics, such as, kinetics.
