Outline and Purpose of the Course Plasma diagnostics, together with the plasma control, heating, and fusion engineering, has been regarded as a key area in the nuclear fusion research. It is also useful in understanding how the microscopic transport phenomena and atomic and molecular processes are applied to the experimental physics. Also for the theoretitian, plasma diagnostic is useful in cultivating your insight towards the underlying physics from the observation.
Course Goals 1) Students should be able to make use of the basic physics in studying the plasma diagnostics system.
2) Students should understand elementary processes such as ionization, excitation, recombination or radiation,in plasma.
3) Students should understand the importance of electron energy distribution function and electron impact phenomena.
4) Students should understand some typical diagnostics methods.
5) Students should understand application of fundamental processes of plasma to the plasma diagnostics.
6) Students should be able to analize some simple diagnostic data using computer softwares such as data processing, spread sheet and graphics.
Schedule and Contents "Elementary processes and plasma diagnostics"
- kinetic theory of gases for plasma diagnostics
- quantum statistics for plasma diagnostics
- plasma particle flux and its diagnostics
- elementary collisional and radiation processes in plasma
- beams in plasma
- optical component for plasma diagnostics
Evaluation Methods and Policy Supposedly 60% of main reports and 40 % of the attitude including drills at the class and homework assignments.
Course Requirements None
