Outline and Purpose of the Course This course offers an overview of the fundamentals of higher education (research) to graduate students entering the higher education studies course through relay teaching by all instructors (university education/FD・pre-FD/practical university studies/university curricula and class/achievement evaluation/quality guarantee and university evaluation/IR and learning achievement assessment/student learning and growth/active learning/ICT/MOOC and ICT, etc.). At the end of the class, students will review what they have learned using a concept map, and write a final paper.
Course Goals ・Understand theories and concepts related to higher education
・Gain one’s own perspective and thought process based on knowledge acquired
・Effectively participate in discussions and conduct presentations, based on knowledge acquired
Schedule and Contents Class will be conducted as lecture, Q&A, and discussion on the following themes.
Class week 1-3: What is university education? /FD/pre-FD/practical university research
Class week 4-6: University curricula and courses/achievement evaluation
Class week 7-9: Quality guarantee and university evaluation/IR and learning achievement assessment
Class week 10-12: University education and ICT
Class week 13: Student learning and growth
Class week 14: Concept map and review
Class week 15: Feedback
Evaluation Methods and Policy 【Grading Method】
 Class attendance and thorough participation in discussions (60%), final paper and concept map (40%)
【Grading Policy】
Students will be evaluated based on achievement goals under the Graduate School of Education grading policy.
Course Requirements This course is required for graduate students in the higher education program. In principle, only graduate students in the higher education program are allowed to enroll in this course.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) ・In addition to textbooks, review the related literature presented by the student presenter
・Read and review papers on topics not covered in the textbook (to be handed out the first week of class)
