Outline and Purpose of the Course In the analysis to predict the deformation and failure of soil structures, the selection of a constitutive model that describes the mechanical properties of geomaterials as a stress-strain relationship determines the accuracy of prediction and reproducibility. In this course, we focus on the elasto-plastic constitutive model, which is often adopted as a constitutive model of geomaterials. The primary objective is to learn the basics of elasto-plasticity theory, which is a method to describe the model. The second objective is to take up orthodox models among various proposed elasto-plastic constitutive models and to learn their characteristics and limit of application. Finally, the third objective is to deepen the understanding of the solution techniques of elasto-plastic constitutive models through programming exercises.
Course Goals The goal of this course is to master the basics of elasto-plasticity theory and to understand orthodox elasto-plastic constitutive models of geomaterials. This course also aims to deepen the understanding of the solution method of the constitutive model and the response obtained through programming exercises.
