Outline and Purpose of the Course A comprehensive explanation of African agriculture from multiple perspectives, including the ecological environment (climate, soil, topography, vegetation, etc.), farming systems (farming techniques, crop varieties, livelihood complex, land use, etc.), and culture (food, materials). It will also explain the causes of the various challenges facing rural Africa and introduce efforts to find solutions.
Course Goals Students will be able to understand the realities of agriculture in contemporary Africa based on specific examples, and comprehensively grasp the current situation from the perspectives of ecology, society, culture, and history. They will also be able to understand the realities of land conflicts, energy shortages, and environmental degradation faced by rural communities, and to consider solutions based on the interrelationships among the issues.
