Outline and Purpose of the Course The rapid spread and progress of computerization and digitalization represented by the Internet are significantly changing society as a whole, including administrative organizations and private companies. The transformation that corresponds to digitalization is called digital transformation (DX), and it is required to respond not only to administrative organizations and private companies, but also to all fields of society. Moreover, the recent COVID-19 disaster is accelerating such changes.
Therefore, in this practicum, based on concrete research and analysis, we will grasp the status and awareness of informatization and digitization in society and the situation leading to this current state. We will also clarify what each person considers the ideal way of administration and companies in the information and digital society.
In the 3rd-year practicum, we aim to acquire the knowledge and (research) methodology necessary for each person to work on an identified research theme. Specifically, we aim to set the final research theme, focusing on the acquisition of skills necessary for research, which are methodologies or tools for analysis and thinking such as brainstorming, systems thinking, social research, statistical analysis, programming, and data management.
Course Goals ・Understand the status and awareness of computerization and digitization in society and the situation leading to this status
・Clarify the ideal form of government and corporations in the information and digital society.
・In the three student practicums, the abovementioned and related research themes will be set and the skills required to conduct the research acquired.
Schedule and Contents To acquire the knowledge and (research) methodology necessary for students to work on their research themes, the course is offered over 15 weeks. One to three lectures and exercises will be given per theme for each research methodology and tool such as idea methods, systems thinking, social surveys, statistical analysis, programming, simulation, and data management.
For each class, we will introduce topics related to the computerization and digitization of companies, governments, and society, and provide related information to stimulate each class toward identifying their own research themes.

Evaluation Methods and Policy We will verify your acquisition of the required research methods and tools through your participation in class (statements in the class, exercise reports, self-study presentations on topics) (100%).
Course Requirements None in particular
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) In principle, materials for lectures are distributed in advance of each class, so participants are required to participate in the exercise after preparing the lecture materials on their own. In addition, we ask for additional learning on periodic reports to verify understanding of the exercises and topics of interest covered in the classes.
