Outline and Purpose of the Course The systems of management of rural villages in Asia differ in each country and region. This can be seen as a "rural system" created by "visible hands." Therefore, where are there universal rules in a unique rural system? In this course, we study the universal design embedded in each country's rural systems through the new institutional economics approach, which takes a universal microeconomic approach to each individual system. The course focuses on informal and formal rural systems in Japan and China, teaching that "trading-related efficiency" is always built in.
Course Goals To learn the methodology of institutional analysis based on game theory and information economics, and analyze the efficiency of microeconomics in areas that have been dealt with by sociology, anthropology, law, and others.
