Outline and Purpose of the Course Landscaping refers to activities that maintain, restoration, and create excellent space based on insights from various academic disciplines in diverse zones of nature and green space. In order to practice landscaping, not only do we need to apply findings from academic disciplines, we also need an understanding of the area, culture and technology, the interpretation of policies and planning, and skills to plan and design. The course provides a comprehensive overview of these.
Course Goals To appropriately evaluate actions pertaining to various spaces to which landscaping and environmental design respond, and to gain an overall understanding of the interpretation of related policies and design skills.
Schedule and Contents One to three lectures per theme will be given, following the plan below:
Lecture 1: Overview
Lectures 2 and 3: Gardens in Japan
Lecture 4: Gardens abroad
Lectures 5-7: Landscaping/greening technology
Lecture 8: How landscaping is carried out
Lectures 9 and 10: Restoration of the natural environment
Lectures 11 and 12: Ecological planning
Lecture 13: Nature restoration from a cultural perspective
Lectures 14: Policies and legislation on natural environment conservation
Lecture 15: Feedback

The feedback hour will be included in the lecture just after the exam. If you have a question, please make an appointment with the teaching staff, and come to the office during the designated hour.
Evaluation Methods and Policy [Assessment method]
Assessment is based on attitude (50%) and the end-of-semester exam (50%).
