授業の概要・目的 This will be a long-distance lecture course held together with National Taiwan University. Each of the classes is composed of 1 hour lecture by a professor and 30 minute presentation by a student group of a published paper related to the lecture subject. This course is an intensive course to introduce recent fundamental findings on various biological processes in animals, plants, and microbes. The final goal of this course is to provide a comprehensive knowledge base regarding the diversity and generality of living organisms. Students who are especially interested in cell and molecular biology, cell signal transduction, and cell morphology, gut microbiome are encouraged to participate in the course.
到達目標 Students will successfully gain enhanced knowledge on molecular and cell biology of eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells. Additionally, they will be trained to have good presentation skills.
授業計画と内容 The following is a tentative schedule, and it might be changed accordingly.

Course schedule:
(1) Course introduction/microscopy
(2) Cell signaling I (G-protein-coupled receptor signaling)
(3) Cell signaling II (Small GTPases and tyrosine kinases)
(4) Cell signaling III (MAP kinases etc.)
(5) DNA damage and repair
(6) The mechanism of chromosome segregation during cell division
(7) Circadian rhythm
(8) Synthetic biology in plants
(9) Plant hormone and stress response
(10) Molecular mycology and approaches
(11) Light sensing in Plant
(12) Photosynthesis
(13) Cilia
(14) Cell adhesion
(15) Feedback
成績評価の方法・観点 Grading will be primarily based on attendance (80%) and presentation (20%).
Further details will be announced in the first lecture.
履修要件 Open-minded students who (want to) communicate science using English are welcome.
授業外学習(予習・復習)等 Students assigned to paper presentation need to prepare PPT files.
参考書等 Reference books will be suggested in the class
