Outline and Purpose of the Course This mandatory course for third-year students majoring in French Language and Literature focuses on improving students’ French reading comprehension skills. Students will learn French literature research methods by translating literary criticism texts into Japanese and summarizing them.
Course Goals * Acquire the methods of literary text analysis
* Be able to read studies on French literature written in intermediate French
Schedule and Contents This course provides an introduction to reading literary criticism texts, research books, and research papers. Students should read material on concepts, theories, or literary history that are important in literary study and understand the content by summarizing and translating them into Japanese. They should also learn how to read academic French. This course will help students understand the content of research literature written in French, which students need to reference while writing their undergraduate theses. Lessons will be carried out in accordance with the following schedule.

Course Requirements Intermediate level French language proficiency is required.
