Outline and Purpose of the Course This lecture outlines human sensation and perception with the special emphasis on visual perception. The aim is to understand the basic function and the mechanisms of sensation and perception on the basis of findings in psychophysics, anatomy, and physiology.
Course Goals To understand human sensation and perception as the basis of advanced topics in any field of psychology.
Schedule and Contents Each lecture covers one of the following topics.

1. Visual illusion and constancy
2. The mechanism of vision; completion.
3. Colour vision
4. Lightness perception
5. Motion perception
6. Depth perception
7. Face perception
8. Eye movements
9. Hearing
10. Taste and olfaction
11. Cross modal interactions
12. Time and attention
13. Perception of aesthetics
14. Summary
15. Examination

The way of feedback will be announced during the lecture.
The contents and the order may be subject to partial changes.
Evaluation Methods and Policy Level of achievement will be assessed by the written examination at the end of the semester (100 points).
Other methods of evaluation could be considered in case of social conditions that examination is difficult to
conduct on campus.
Course Requirements Skill of Japanese language, at least for listening and reading, is required.
Study outside of Class (preparation and review) The students are advised to read the textbook and other documents (especially web pages and on-line documents) for deeper understanding on topics that each student is particularly interested.
