授業の概要・目的 The Vakyarthamatrka of Salikanathamisra (late 9th century), together with its Vrtti (auto-commentary), is a work of Mimamsa, i.e., Indian exegesis of sacred texts. He stood for the school of Prabhakara after Prabhakara. During this intensive course, we will read and discuss the chapter of the Vakyarthamatrka ("The Source of the Sentence Meaning") with its auto-commentary. In this chapter he refutes various views of other schools and establishes his own theory of sentence meaning. In the second chapter of the Vakyarthamatrka, he focuses on the special issue how people can learn the meaning of Vedic words. In the class, we will read the edition being prepared by me.
