授業の概要・目的 This is a distance learning course conducted in English with National Taiwan University, Taiwan, and University of Tsukuba. The instructors include Prof. Naoshi Kondo, Prof. Garry Piller from Kyoto University; Prof. Suming Chen, Prof. Ping-Lang Yen from National Taiwan University; and Prof. Yutaka Kitamura, Mitsutoshi Nakajima, Marcos Neves, Ryozo Noguchi, Tofael Ahamed from University of Tsukuba.
The scope and current trends in Bio-Systems Engineering will be introduced, followed by student presentations and discussion on topics in the field of Bio-Systems Engineering. Through this experience of international communication your reading, speaking, listening and discussion skills will be enhanced during the semester.

Course Objectives:
1. To enhance the knowledge of students regarding Bio-Systems Engineering's scope and development.
2. To develop students` communication ability in terms of giving presentations, discussion and active participation in an international setting.

2. Students will write an extended abstract on a piece of relevant research from a journal paper in English.

授業外学習(予習・復習)等 1. Presentation
Collect necessary data from journal papers, text books, and web-sites and make a PPT file at least 3 days before designated presentation day. Practice many times before presenting so as to be able to present without any memo.

2. Extended abstract
Read relevant journal papers and try to write an abstract following the instructions given.
