Living Donor Liver Transplantation Using a Reduced Segment Graft Associate Prof. Hiroto EGAWA (Department of Surgery Hepato-Biliary-Transplant Division Organ Transplant Unit Kyoto University)

Highlights of this Course
Organ transplant became clinically available in 1980s along with development of operative skills and immunosuppression, which had been experimental medicine. In Kyoto University, we started living liver transplant program in 1990 and the number of transplantation increased over 1000 cases in 2004 which means the largest and best program in the world. We have also developed living donor small bowel transplant and living donor pancreas islet transplant. A lot of useful information which has been found in our large experience is opened to the world. Many physicians and surgeons visited us from all over the world to learn our skills, knowledge, and philosophy and started new programs at their home hospitals.
